1909 Indian Single

Congratulations to Todd Cameron of Monrovia for winning Bike of the Month with his 1909 Indian Single. Todd won a plaque provided by Russ Brown Motorcycle Attorneys.

A year ago in March 2019, Todd took Bike of the Month with his 1916 Harley Davidson JD. At that time his Harley was the second oldest bike at our meet, but the oldest ever riden to a meet.

This 1909 is not only the oldest bike we've ever had, but he rode it down from Anaheim today. He is preparing for the upcomming Cannonball, which has been postponed. Today's ride was the farthest he's ever riden it.

Todd bought this bike a year ago to prepare for the Cannonball. Because of it's age and the fact that it's a single with one speed, it classifies as a Class 1 Cannonball.

It has a 27.5 cubic inch, 3.5 HP motor, and a top speed of 40 mph. The throttle and timing advance are controlled by a a series of linkages instead of cables as on a modern bike. These linkages have adjustable links so the when the bars turn, the throttle isn't effected.

Back in November 2019, he took Second place with his 1930 BSA S30 Sloper. This bike has a great story. Todd just bought this bike from Germany two weeks before the Cross Country Cannonball Chase and took First Place in the cross country race. Read Todd's story here: www.TheMotorcycleChase.com/

Todd's grandfather, John "JD" Cameron of La Mirada after the WWII. J. D. Cameron was one the founding members of the Booze Fighter's Motorcycle Club. There's a link to an LA Times article on March 2019 Bike of the Month page.

Thank you Todd for bringing your Indian out for all of us to see. See all the photos in our July Gallery.

The Bike of the Month contest is held monthly at the Vintage Bike OC meet. Qualifying motorcycles must be 30 years old or older. Former Bike of the Month winning bikes are not eligible to win again. Anyone attending the meet is eligible to enter a qualifying bike in the contest and vote for their favorite bike. The winning bike is chosen by a popular vote and is featured on the Home page for one month and in this feature article. The Bike of the Month articles are permanent content on the site.
