October Vintage Bike OC Meet
American Historic Racing Motorcycle Association WD-40 Specialist Motorcycle

Huntington Beach, Calif. - Somehow it passed us by in August, but we've been hanging out together as Vintage Bike OC for 10 years. It was started as Vintage Bike Night back in 2004 by Greg McBride and Thomas Harper. After loosing the original domain name in 2007, I registered our new one and took over to help keep it alive. I never imagined that it would be going strong 10 years later.

The highlight of this group has been meeting and getting to know many of you. I remember clearly back at Massimo's Pizza when Jim Bradford introduced me to Bob Nichols. Bob was only in his mid eighties back then and wanted me to build a website for his Indian Racing business. It took a few years of convincing, but I finally did it: www.bobnicholsracing.com. When Bob brings out his toys, everyone else may as well stay home.

Today was that day, a couple of weeks ago Smokey Elford got Bob's "Red Bike" a 1940 Indian Sport Scout running. 90 people showed up and many competed for Bike of the Month but there was really no contest. Full disclosure I've been sitting with Bob and Smokey at Costa Mesa Speedway for the past several years. Last night at Speedway, Bob told me that they were bringing the Red Bike and it was going to win. Nobody can beat 70 years of racing history. Just to be clear, the votes were fully counted and tallied and I didn't vote.

"Yellow Bike" 62 Wins In Two Years
Bob also brought out his "Yellow Bike" a 1937 Indian Big Base Scout which won Bike of the Month back in October 2014. For the past two years Jim Ottele has been racing this bike. Jim has 62 wins under his belt with this bike. Last week in Willow Spring Jim won his first two races on the "Red Bike".

Moto Beach Classic - Racing at the Beach
To see these and other bikes in action make sure you show up to the Moto Beach Classic brought to you by Roland Sands next Saturday October 14th at Bolsa Chica State Beach https://www.motobeachclassic.com/

Bike of the Month
Congratulations to Bob Nichols of Newport Beach for winning Bike of the Month with his 1940 Indian Sport Scout. Bob won Specialty Formulated Motorcycle Chain Cleaner provided by the WD-40 Company.

WD-40 now produces a line of specialty formulated motorcycle products WD-40 Specialist Motorcycle

Read all about the 1940 Indian Sport Scout on our Bike of the Month page.

Second Place
Kenny Easton of Fullerton came in Second with his 1977 Bultaco. Kenny has owned the Bultaco for 2 1/2 years and finished the restoration about a year ago.

Third Place - Tie
Don Reynolds of West Covina tied for Third place with his 1977 Kawasaki H1 500. Don has owned the "Widow Maker" for about a year.

Chris Bostrom of Corona took as many votes with his 1971 Moto Guzi Ambassador 750. Probably half for the bike and half for his sidecar which he has owned for two years

Thanks to everyone for showing up and making this another great event and a special thanks to the team, Tom & Debbie Hopkins. I'll see you at the next meet on November 12, 2017.

Keep On Ridin',
Joe Kagerer
