Huntington Beach, Calif. - The heat was turned up today in HB. It was a hot August afternoon, and that probably kept our numbers down a bit. We still had a great meet with 55 bikes. Two first timers placed in our Bike of the Month contest including our first ever electric powered motorcycle.

Bike of the Month - Doug Rickertsen

Congratulations to Doug Rickertsen of Huntington Beach for winning Bike of the Month with his 1975 Honda MR50.

Second Place - Steve Krasch

Steve Krasch of Upland took Second place with his 1975 Honda 400 Super Sport.

This was Steve's first time at our meet with a bike that he's owned since new. He bought it from Hacienda Heights Honda in 1976. I thought it had been restored, but it's a 100% original survivor.

It was stored covered for 35 years in his garage, while he had the engine torn down. With some extra time on his hands during Covid, he managed to get it all back together.

Third Place - David Banducci

David Banducci of Laguna Beach won Third place with his 1980 BMW R65 Electric. Definitely a first at Vintage Bike OC, an Electric powered bike was part of the contest.

David thought that he may be shunned, and I wasn't sure how it would go, but as always it's up to the people to decide. I guess they sort of liked it. The engineering and fabrication were amazing. His use of the valve covers to disguise the battery box gave new meaning the nickname Boxer.

The motor is a 34 kilo watt (45 hp) with torque from the start. It took him a year and a half the finish the build. Here is more info on his build: www.evalbum.com/5531

This is David's second electrified bike. His first was a 1952 Francis Barnett Falcon that was a basket case missing the engine.
