Congratulations to Larry Horn of Huntington Beach for winning Bike of the Month with his 1954 Jawa 500 OHC. This is Larry's sixth time winning Bike of the Month. Larry has won with almost every bike he owns.
Larry has owned the Jawa since 1968 when he got it as a rolling chassis. It was missing many parts including the tank. Working with a Jawa expert out of City of Industry, Larry spent 15 years sourcing the parts needed to put the bike together. The restoration was finished over 15 years ago.
This bike has been on display in the lobby of an HB business for many years. Larry has been invited to show this bike next month at the Palos Verde Concours D' Elegance so he pulled it out of storage/display and got it running for the event.
The Jawa 500 OHC was built while Czechoslovakia was under communist rule and was Jawa's first four stroke street bike. Jawa is well known for their Speedway racing motorcycles still in use today.
Some of the unique features of this bike are its magnesium engine and it's hand/foot clutch. The clutch is built into shift lever, so every time you shift the clutch is automatically engaged.
Thanks Larry for bringing another winner to our meet. See all the photos in our August Gallery.
