Congratulations to Greg McBride of Midway City for winning Bike of the Month with his 1948 Vincent HRD Black Shadow. Greg won a $20.00 Beach Burgers gift certificate provided by Beach Burgers.
Greg and Thomas Harper started this group back in 2004. He usually doesn't participate in the Bike of the Month contest, but I talked him into it today.
He has owned the Black Shadow for about nine years. It wasn't together when he bought it, but it was complete. Complete with a hole in one of the pistons. Greg repaired the piston and put this Numbers Matching bike back on the road.
According to Greg, less than 80 of these 1948 HRD Black Shadows were produced. The HRD which comes from the original creators name, Howard Raymond Davies, was dropped from the Vincent trademark in 1949 to help distinguish them in the US market from Harley Davidson.
The 1948 Black Shadow was the Worlds Fastest Production Motorycle. The HRD has several distinct features including no full frame, the engine is a stressed member of the bike, four disk brakes and a patented mono shock rear suspension.
Thank you Greg for starting our group and your continued support. View all the photos in our December Gallery.
