Congratulations to Perry & Cory Edwards of Garden Grove for winning Bike of the Month with their 1976 Yamaha YZ125C.
They won a plaque provided by Russ Brown Motorcycle Attorneys.
Perry Edwards and his son Cory have been attending the meet since the beginning.
A 28 year retiree of American Honda, Perry is well known in So Cal as being the
go-to guy for Honda restorations.
They usually only show up when they have something special, and today Perry brought
the Hill Climbing bike that he took to the National Amateur Hill Climb Championships
in 1977.
Technically the bike is now owned by Cory.
Here's the Story:
In 1975, Perry started working for Fairway Yamaha in Placentia, Calif. just after graduating from High School.
He bought the YZ125C new in 1976 and started competing locally in Hill Climbs. The rear swing arm was extended
at that time by Fairway Racing Products, part of the same dealership.
In 1976 and 1977 Perry competed in the Widowmaker's Hill Climb in Utah. His success in
those years brought him to Bay City, Wisconson in 1977 for the AMA National Amateur Championship Hill Climb
where Perry finished 12th in the Nation! Nice job young man!
After working at Fairway, Perry worked in So Orange County for Yamaha of Mission Viejo. That dealership later became
Mission Yamaha was owned and operated by the late John Matherson. Later it became Mission Motorsports which unfortunately
closed after 37 years in business in 2020.
Perry then moved on to American Honda and sold the bike to his Brother-in-Law, also an American Honda employee.
Fast forward to this decade, his Brother-in-Law still had the bike, but was re-locating out of state.
It was then Cory was given the bike to keep it in the family.
Cory and Perry restored the bike about four years ago bringing up to better than factory condition. The
tank was painted by Doug Starbuck of Star Side Designs in Riverside, Calif.
This is the third time Perry has won Bike of the Month. He won back in
Sept 2023 with his 1966 Honda S90
and
April 2008 with his 1974 Honda CB-750
Thank you Perry & Cory for bringing the Yamaha out for all of us to see. See all the photos in our June 2026 Gallery.
