Congratulations to Baird Bergenthal of Midway City for winning Bike of the Month with his 1957 Moto Beta - Franco Morini Motori.
No prize was awarded today due to Beach Burgers closing.
Baird has only owned this bike for a couple of months. He bought it as a basket case shown in the photos below.
He bought it as a project and put together a pretty cool bike. This is the first Moto Beta I think we've had at our meet. You just never know what it going to win the Bike of the Month contest.
Beta has been around since 1904 and is still manufacturing bikes today. Wikipedia
One of the unique features of the bike is it's three speed left hand Super Pratic C shifter. To shift the bike, the clutch lever is pulled and the entire mechanism rotates forward or back to switch gears. I took some detail shots of the shifter in our gallery.
Baird told me that this model was raced in the 50cc Class of Moto GP Racing.

The Bike of the Month contest is held monthly at the Vintage Bike OC meet. Qualifying motorcycles must be 30 years old or older. Former Bike of the Month winning bikes are not eligible to win again.
Anyone attending the meet is eligible to enter a qualifying bike in the contest and vote for
their favorite bike. The winning bike is chosen by a popular vote and is featured on the Home page for one month and in this feature article. The Bike of the Month articles are permanent content on the site.
