Congratulations to Baird Bergenthal of Midway City for winning Bike of the Month with his 1963 Batavus Bilonet.
Baird won a plaque provided by Russ Brown Motorcycle Attorneys.
Baird always bring something interesting to our meet. He has won Bike of the Month once before in
December 2014 with his 1957 Moto Beta.
And placed three times:
News March 2021 with his 1963 Testi Grand Prix
News February 2021 with his 1978 Cimatti
News October 2020 with his 1962 Ducati Piuma
His Batavus is not only the first Batavus ever at our meet, it's the first bike made in Holland ever at our meet.
The Batavus Bilonet was not imported into the U.S.A. Baird believes that this bike was built for the U.K. market
and brought here later.
Baird has owned the bike for about three months. He picked it up from a private owner in Pamona while making deal
on another moped. The Bilonet had been under a tarp for 20 years. Prior to that it was on display in a motorcycle dealership.
The Bilonet has a 50cc JLO TS50 engine that puts out 4.7 horsepower. The weakness of this bike is it's transmission. Fortunately Baird got this one running
and it shifts through all three gears.
Built in bike lock
This bike has a unique built in bike lock stored in the handlebars. It's a bar that slides through two rings on the fork locking the front wheel.
Baird has nine different bikes, all under 100cc. Hmm, I just have one 900... They always draw a crowd and a smile.
This one is for sale, if you're interested email me at info@vintagebikeoc.com and I will forward your message.
Thank you Baird for bringing your Batavus out for all of us to see. See all the photos in our May Gallery.
