VINTAGE BIKE OC NEWS

Huntington Beach, Calif. - A perfect summer day at the beach, by two o'clock we already had 62 bikes in Beach Burgers parking lot. A great turnout and we were just getting started. By the time the official count was in we had 108 bikes come through plus three more after 4:00, they missed the party.

Bike of the Month Contest
We had a great Bike of the Month contest. Eugene Garcin of Hollywood won easily with his 1953 BMW R68. This rare gem was one of 1453 R68 models made between 1952 and 1954.

Eugene will have to come back to Orange County to redeem his $20.00 gift certificate to Beach Burgers, provided by Beach Burgers and The Scooter Solution.

A tie for Second Place was between Jeff Elmore of Newport Beach with his 1981 Honda CBX-VFR and Michael Cooper of Balboa Island with his "B54" Custom BSA.

Jeff's custom Honda CB-X is made from the frame of a 1981 CB-X fitted with the front end and the single sided swingarm off a 1990 Honda VFR. Always one of the favored bikes, Jeff had some tough competition this month.

Michael Cooper brought "B54" for the second time. The first time he came to our meet, he showed up at the end. Today he showed up early enough to grab some votes. Named "B54" from the mix of a 1971 BSA B50 frame and a 1967 BSA Victor 441 engine. The build is almost one year old, completed in October 2011 by James Bank Performance.

Honorable Mention goes to Hoken Martensson of Costa Mesa for his 1947 Harley Davidson FL. This 74 cubic inch knucklehead is so close to a post war build, you feel like you're back in the early 50's. One day Hoken will win first place with one of his three awesome bikes.

Vintage Honda Painting
Honda Mike Hogan from Vintage Honda Painting came to the meet today with some fine examples of his work. I'm sure he's not limited to Honda colors, check out his website: www.VintageHondaPainting.com

Cushman II Motor Scooters
I had a nice conversation with Jack Chalabian President of K-Jack Motors L.L.C. builders of Cushman Motor Scooters in Gardena California. Jack brought two examples of their brand new 50 State Legal Cushman II Scooters for all to see. They were parked out on Beach Blvd, so some of you may have missed them.
