Congratulations to Eugene Garcin & Mary Wong of Hollywood for winning Bike of the Month with their 1934 Cotton 500cc 25J.
They won a Mr. Pete's Grill gift certificate. Eugene usually shows up with a BMW with which he has won Bike of the Month four times in the past:
July 2015 1968 BMW R69US
March 2014 1952 BMW R67/2
November 2012 1954 BMW R51/3
July 2012 1953 BMW R68
Eugene has only owned the 1934 Cotton for a couple of weeks. He picked it up last month in Las Vegas at the Mecum Auction. He spotted the bike two years ago on the internet and decided then it was a bike he wanted. When the Mecum catalog included the it in their January auction, they made plans for the trip.
In 1934 the Cotton one of 19 different models that the company offered. This model came with the 500cc single cylinder JAP engine. It was delivered with a 3 speed tank shifted transmission. Later it was modified with a 4 speed foot shifted transmission from the 1937 model year along with a hot racing cam. All the street lighting was removed for racing purposes.
The bike also came with all it's registration and tax information up through the 1950's. The bikes previous owner lives in Alberta Canada and he had purchased the bike in England.
According the Wikipedia, the Cotton Motor Company was in business from 1918 until 1980.
F.W. Cotton designed the triangulated tubular frame for hill climbs and trials. The engine is a stressed member of the frame.
Thanks Eugene & Mary for bringing it to our meet. See all the photos in our February Gallery.
