September Vintage Bike OC Meet
Yamaha OEM

Huntington Beach, Calif. - The weather was perfect in Huntington Beach today. I was expecting a huge meet, but it was smaller than expected. Overall we had 65 bikes, but mostly newer than 30 years old. It was still a great meet, and we had a good variety.

The Norton's were out in force today, I think we had five Norton Commando 850's. Four black ones and one orange "custom" with high rise handlebars, it looked very period correct. Even with all those Brits, the votes went to the Japanese bikes today. In the history of the meet we've only had three Yamaha's win. Today we had two in the top three. The voting was extremely close, only a few votes divided the top three.

Congratulations to Bill Brewer of Huntington Beach for winning Bike of the Month with his 1975 Yamaha RD200. Bill won the Bike of the Month plaque provided by Russ Brown Motorcycle Attorneys. www.RussBrown.com.

Bill has owned the Yamaha since 2014. He has brought it to our meet in the past and tied for Second place back in May of this year.

Second Place - Robert Cybulski

Robert Cybulski of Camarillo won Second with his 1971 Honda CB750.

Ok, so Robert's not from Orange County, but he rode his pristine 1971 Honda CB750 ninety miles from Camarillo today to attend our meet. This was the first time he has been here, although he showed his bike this year at the Huntington Beach Concours.

Robert has owned this bike since 2012 and he finished the restoration in 2014.

Third Place - Ron Callaway

Ron Callaway of Yorba Linda took Third place with his 1978 Yamaha RD400.

Ron had just finished the full restoration on this RD that he has owned five years. He brought it on a trailer today, but he assured me that it was fully operational.

Thanks to everyone for showing up and making this another great event. A special thanks to Debbie Hopkins, Mark D'Ambrosio and Pete Whelan for helping out with the voting today. I'll see you at next month's meet, October 13, 2019.

Keep On Ridin',
Joe Kagerer
