January Vintage Bike OC Meet
Canada Transport Sticker

Huntington Beach, Calif. - Happy New Year! It was a slighty cloudy afternoon but we still had a great meet with a wide variety of bikes. At 2:00 we had 39 bikes and by the time the official count was in we hit 59. Many of which we've never seen.

Congratulations to Chris Upton of Laguna Niguel for winning Bike of the Month with his 1981 Yamaha RD350LC.

Chris won the Bike of the Month plaque provided by Russ Brown Motorcycle Attorneys. www.RussBrown.com.

Chris has owned this Yamaha for a year and finished the restoration last Thanksgiving.

Chris and his wife Sarah have been attending our meet for about eight years. Usually they ride modern bikes, but today he brought his latest project.

Read all about Chris' 1981 Yamaha RD350LC on our Bike of the Month page.

Second Place - Doug Rickertsen

Doug Rickertsen of Huntington Beach took Second place with his 1975 Honda MT250.

Today was Doug's first ride on his fully restored Honda. He came within two votes of winning, so I'm sure he's up next or soon.

Doug has won Bike of the Month twice before:
August 2022 - 1975 Honda MR50
April 2021 - 1971 Honda SL125

Third Place Tie - Eugene Garcine

Eugene Garcine (right) of Hollywood tied for Third place with his 1993 Moto Guzzi SP3 1000.

Eugene told me about this bike, but didn't stick around long enough afterwards to let me shoot photos or make notes. It's a limited edition and very few were made. Also being a 1993, it's the newest bike we've ever had in the contest.

He's not that concerned with winning, he just loves to come to the meet when he has something new to show. Eugene has won Bike of the Month eight times before:
November 2021 - 1952 Vincent Comet 500
April 2019 - 1936 Husqvarna 40SV
January 2018 - 1929 BMW R63
February 2017 - 1934 Cotton 500cc
July 2015 - 1968 BMW R69US
March 2014 - 1952 BMW R67/2
November 2012 - 1954 BMW R51/3
July 2012 - 1953 BMW R68

Third Place Tie - Larry Thomas
Larry Thomas of Laguna Niguel with his 1970 Honda CL450
Larry Thomas of Laguna Niguel tied for Third place with his 1970 Honda CL450.

This Honda was put together from parts from the Bob Hanson Estate. Larry has owned the bike for two years and is still working on making it 100% correct.

Indians Galore
Go Takamine's 1947 Indian Chiefs
Go Takamine of Long Beach and his wife brought out two very cool 1947 Indian Chiefs. They own and operate BratStyle with shops in Long Beach and Tokyo Japan. www.BratStyle.com

Thanks to everyone for showing up and making this another great event. A special thanks to John Zindler for helping out with the voting. I'll see you at next month's meet, February 13, 2023.

Keep On Ridin',
Joe Kagerer
