March Vintage Bike OC Meet
Doodle Bug Super

Huntington Beach, Calif. - Time Change? - What Time Change? I'd like to thank everyone who showed up on time today, that is all thirty-five of you who showed up before me! - You'd think with a clock on every appliance in my house, that I would know what time it was... well all those clocks have to be set.

A New Record Set Today
Today the "official" count was set at 49 bikes. This is an Official Record Turnout for VintageBikeNight and VintageBikeOC. According to Thomas Harper who founded this group, Vintage Bike Night, in June 2004, the record attendance was 41 bikes. Thomas was there today with many of the original members. This is the highest turnout since I became involved in September 2006 .

Mini Bike Mecca
I don't know what it was, maybe something in the gas, but we had a ton of mini bikes today. I counted them all as complete motorcycles, however I was told that anything under 70cc, only counts as half. We had at least six under 70cc, even with that we still had a record.

Mike DaPron of Los Alamitos easily won Bike of the Month with his 1963 Triumph Tiger 100. Check out the gallery for all the photos.

If variety is the spice of life, today was pretty spicy. we had a great spectrum of bikes. No former Bike of the Month winners were present. Several newer rare bikes, a couple of Honda's that were never sold in the States, a Honda Rune that still looks like concept and two brand new Harley Davidson XL1200's that just were released to the US market. OK, I know it's Vintage Bike, but I like them all, I'm sure we all agree.

Trouble With The Neighbors
We caused a little trouble with the Personal Training Studio next door to Massimo's. I guess they chose today to produce a training video in their Studio, and they didn't appreciate the sweet sound of engines right outside. The owner was out and talked to me about the "noise" and threatened to call the Police. All I could do was try to wrap it up a bit earlier, so I counted the votes earlier than usual today. Maybe next time he won't schedule his video shoots on the second Sunday.

HELP!
If this event gets bigger, I may need some help. As it is, I'm always open to suggestions. Today I almost ran out of bike tags and handling the ballots is getting to be a chore. Don't get me wrong, I'll keep it up as long as there is a need. If you have any ideas to make it easier, let me know. Some people like to be involved with the Bike of the Month contest, and other's don't really care and every month we have a lot of new people.

As always as I'm writing up the event, I'm looking forward to the next one. I can't wait to see what next month brings. I'll see you all April 12th - this time at 2:00pm.

Keep On Ridin',
Joe Kagerer
