Huntington Beach, Calif. -
Happy Mother's Day. As always in May, it was a light turnout, but we had some great bikes including many first timers. 60 bikes showed up for the great Huntington Beach weather and experienced the Bike of the Month debacle.
My entire team was off this month. Brian Tinkler is on a ride around So Cal up through Santa Barbara and Debbie and Tom Hopkins had holiday conflicts. Fortunately Dana Franklin Welch and Rodd Wiston helped out passing out ballots.

Bike of the Month Contest Debacle
Greg McBride brought his 1947 Vincent HRD Black Shadow for the first time today. Greg has restored this bike as a Rollie Free tribute bike. Rollie Free broke the land
speed record in 1948 at 150.313 mph. Greg's bike stole the show with half the people voting for it.
Greg and Thomas Harper started this group back in 2004. Greg had other commitments and
wasn't concerned about the contest. In order to shoot photos, and get the details, I have a strict requirement that the winner must be present to win. I'm sure the next time Greg brings the bike he will get the votes again.
First Place
First place went to Larry Fisher of Chino Hills for his unrestored 1947 James Autocycle. This is Larry's first time to the meet and he brought two of his collection of motorized bicycles. Larry was awarded the
Beach Burger's gift certificate.
Second Place Tie
Second place was a tie between two BMW's. For the third month in a row, Shawn Boeker of Garden Grove placed with his pristine 1966 BMW R60/2. Robb Ezzell of Corona Del Mar gathered the same votes with his
1951 BMW R25/2. Robb has owned his bike for 43 years and for 30 years it was a basket case. Robb got it back on the road one year ago.
I hope no one was dissappointed with the outcome of the voting. Feel free to contact me with suggestions.
