April Vintage Bike OC Meet
The Vincent

Huntington Beach, Calif. - While I was off working at the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach, we had the A-Team taking care of business. Thanks to Brian Tinkler, Debbie & Tom Hopkins and Hobo John, the meet went off without a hitch. I'm sorry I missed the meet. Brian shot all the photos and conducted the interviews. We had a great turnout with 113 bikes.

Bike of the Month
Five time winner Larry Horn of Huntington Beach took First place again with his 1948 Norvin. Larry won the $20.00 Beach Burger's gift certificate provided by Beach Burgers and The Scooter Solution. Most people have never heard of a Norvin, the perfect hybrid of a Norton frame and a Vincent engine but Larry owns two. He won back in December 2011 with his red 1950/52 Norvin. Every bike Larry owns is a prize winner.

Second Place
John Mozley of Newport Beach took Second place with his 1972 Yamaha 200 Electric CS5E. John has owned this bike for one year and restored the bike himself. Next in line for resto are the mufflers which he wants to have re-chromed. Maybe then he'll grab enough votes for a first place win.

Third Place Tie
There was a tie for Third place. Terry Hoiland and his beautiful 1968 BSA Lightning 650. We weren't able to get any info on this bike this month, but when he comes back he'll have another shot at winning.

Jim Bradford of Costa Mesa also in Third place with his 1957 Maserati 250. This bike was likely made by Benelli and marketed as a Maserati. The previous owner was Jim’s friend who recently gave him the bike in gratitude for helping out when he fell ill. He was an aerospace worker by trade and a former Corsair pilot. The bike sat in the back of his shop for years.

Honorable Mention
Hayden Roberts of Los Alamitos brought his 1947 MANX Norton. Hayden bought the bike this morning it has been sitting for over 20 years. This bike has magnesium engine cases. Hayden plans to go through the bike and race it. Hayden won Bike of the Month back in January 2011 with his 1959/77 Triton Norton/Triumph hybrid.

Our next meet is Mother's Day May 11, 2014. Bring your wives and mothers out for a perfect Sunday afternoon. Many thanks again to Brian Tinkler, Debbie & Tom Hopkins and Hobo John for handling the meet. I'll see you all in May.

Keep On Ridin',
