VINTAGE BIKE OC NEWS

Huntington Beach, Calif. - It was a great January afternoon in Huntington Beach today. I showed up just before 2:00 to a full parking lot. We had 70 bikes in the lot at the start and by the time it was over I counted 90. Not bad for January.

We had our first 1984 bike in the contest today. The 100% original low mileage 1984 Kawasaki GPZ 900 Ninja was in the running for Bike of the Month.

Bike of the Month
Ken Crites of Huntington Beach took First place with his 1970 Honda CT70 custom. Ken won the $20.00 Beach Burger's gift certificate provided by Beach Burgers plus a discount certificate for EPM Performance donated by David Tegen. Ken had tied for second place back in November.

Second Place
Mr. Velocette Mike Jongblood took Second place with Jack Clark's 1948 Velocette KSS. Mike had worked on the bike for Jack who passed away last year. Mike purchased the bike from Jack's son. Jack was the original owner and had delivered newspapers on it in the 50's. After selling it, Jack was able to get it back from the second owner. To Mike it will always be Jack's bike.

Third Place
Third place went to John Stone of Huntington Beach for his 1969 BSA A65 Lightning. John always brings a nice bike and usually places. One of these months he'll have the favorite.

Two bikes worth mentioning weren't in the contest today. Brian Stewart of Costa Mesa brought his radical 1959 Triumph Tiger T110. I tried to talk Brian into moving it over into the contest, but he wasn't interested. Myles Elsing of Corona Del Mar showed up a little late on his custom 1949 Harley Davidson FL. bobber. Brian was in the 4 way tie back in September and Myles took second last month. Either of these bikes could have possibly won.

Even though I don't mention everyone, it takes everyone to have a great meet. Thanks to everyone for showing up and making this another great event. Thanks to Hobo John for helping with the ballots and Brian Tink Tinkler for helping with the photos. I'll see you on February 9, 2014.
