August Vintage Bike OC Meet
1954 Jawa Ignition
Huntington Beach, Calif. - Another perfect August afternoon in HB. We had a great meet today with many new people and great competition for Bike of the Month. It's been 7 years since I took the reigns and we've grown from 16 bikes in August 2007 to 96 bikes today.

I don't want to take credit for all of this, Greg McBride and Thomas Harper started the group back in 2004 and they passed on an email list of 80 people to me. Greg and Thomas had built a solid foundation with upwards of 45 bikes in attendance. I had no idea what would happen when I jumped in, but it's been great. I can't wait to see what happens in the next 7 years.

Thank you all for showing up! That's what makes the meet great. Also a big thank you to my team Debbie and John Hopkins, Brian 'Tink' Tinkler and Hobo John for all their help and support.

One Little, Two Little, Three Little 101s
Hobo John called me yesterday and told me he was gathering the tribe together. We were hoping for four Indian Scout 101s today, and three were able to make it. Two were previous Bike of the Month winners and the third was a first timer. Hobo John with his 1931 Scout, April 2013, Lon Bubeck with is 1928 Scout, May 2012 and John Eagles from Orange with his 1929 Scout.

John Eagles is nationally known for his knowledge and ability with Indian Motorcycles. He has owned this 1929 Scout since 1957 and has rode over 170,000 miles on it. At 84 years of age, he's not riding as much as he used too, but he did ride it down from Orange for his first visit to our meet.

Bike of the Month
Larry Horn of Huntington Beach had to steal the spotlight from the Indians with his 1954 Jawa 500. A six time winner Larry now holds the record for most wins. He seems to win with every bike he brings. Good news for the rest of us, he's out of winners. Larry won the $20.00 Beach Burger's gift certificate provided by Beach Burgers and The Scooter Solution.

Larry has owned the Jawa since 1968. The restoration took 15 years to gather parts and was finished around 15 years ago. Larry has been invited to show this bike next month at the Palos Verde Concours D' Elegance so he pulled it out of storage/display and got it running for the event. Thanks Larry for bringing this very rare bike to our meet.

Second Place
Michael Cooper of Balboa Island took Second Place today with his 1971 BSA A65 Lightning custom. Michael wasn't far behind Larry with votes, so hopefully he'll bring it back next month.

Third Place
Third Place went to newcomer, Dan Jung of Mission Viejo with his 1970 Triumph Bonneville T120R. Dan has owned the bike for 15 years and recently had it restored by Tony Dunn of Classic Cycles.

It was another great meet today, talking to so many new people and discovering new things. I'm looking forward to September.

Our next meet is September 14, 2014. Many thanks again to Debbie and Tom Hopkins for helping with the votes and Brian 'Tink' Tinkler for helping with the photography. I'll see you all in September.

Keep On Ridin',
