Huntington Beach, Calif. -
It was nice warm afternoon in HB we had a great meet today with a great turnout. The three top bikes spanned almost 40 years of history. Each bringing their own flavor. There was something for everyone. There were 45 bikes in the lot at the start of the meet and the offical count was 91. A great turnout for a great afternnoon.
Bike of the Month
Bob Nichols of Newport Beach brought his 1937 Indian Big Base Scout for the first time today and easily won first place. Bob won the $20.00 Beach Burger's gift certificate provided by Beach Burgers and The Scooter Solution.
I got a chance to hang out with Bob last night at the Dirt Track Finals in Pomona. I told him if he brought his bike today he'll take first place. Contrary to popular belief, I didn't rig the ballots. Bob took first place by a 2-1 margin.
Second Place
Michael Cooper of Balboa Island took Second Place with his custom 1971 BSA Lightning A65 Flat Tracker 40i.
Michael has never won the Bike of the Month contest, but both of his bikes have always placed in the top three. The name "40i" comes from 40 cubic inch engine. Michael also took Second place back in August 2014.
Third Place Tie
Five time Bike of the Month winner Frank Colver came in third place with his 1954 AJS 18cs. Frank has been trying to get this bike back to the meet for quite a while. I think he would have had a good chance for first place had it not been for the yellow monster in the lot. The 500cc single was built in England. AJS and Matchless were part of the same company in 1954 but eventually bought out by Triumph and BSA. Hopefully Frank will bring it back and win for his 6th time.
