Larry Horn of Huntington Beach with his 1961 BSA D1 Bantam
Model: D1 Bantam
Country of Origin: England
Engine: 125cc Single Two-stroke
Transmission: 3 speed
Owner: Larry Horn
City: Huntington Beach
Congratulations to Larry Horn of Huntington Beach for winning Bike of the Month with his 1961 BSA D1 Bantam.
Larry won a plaque provided by Russ Brown Motorcycle Attorneys.
Larry has owned the bike for 20 years and started the restoration two years ago. All the parts had
to be shipped from the United Kingdom, and shipping costs generally outweighed the price of the parts.
The D1 is actually a German DKW design. After WWII England brought the factory equipment from Germany
and started producing the motorcyles. This bike is as it was originally with virtually all the parts
painted and very few chrome parts.
According the Larry, they produced the Bantam up until the early 1970's.
Here's a Wikipedia page with much more information.
Larry has been a part of this group nearly as long as it's been running. This is the seventh time he has won Bike of the Month.
