Congratulations to Hans Peters of San Clemente for winning Bike of the Month
with his 1937 BMW R5.
Hans won a plaque provided by Russ Brown Motorcycle Attorneys.
Hans has owned the bike for over 30 years and it had come out of the Museum of Transportations in
Massachusetts. He was originally going to do the restoration work himself, but it never got completed.
About a year ago Hans met Jeff Moore of Vintage Sales and Restorations
in Corona and Jeff started the restoration.
The R5 was only built in 1936 and 1937 it's a rare motorcycle. It was the first year of the foot shifter for BMW, so they left
the hand shifter to help people who weren't familiar with foot shifting.

The Bike of the Month contest is held monthly at the Vintage Bike OC meet. Qualifying motorcycles must be 30 years old or older. Former Bike of the Month winning bikes are not eligible to win again.
Anyone attending the meet is eligible to enter a qualifying bike in the contest and vote for
their favorite bike. The winning bike is chosen by a popular vote and is featured on the Home page for one month and in this feature article. The Bike of the Month articles are permanent content on the site.
